  • Enabling Self Service Point of Sale to accept all main payment schemes, both domestic (PagoBANCOMAT®) and international (Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, AMEX).
  • Managing fuel cards (Issued by petrol companies, UTA and DKV) and loyalty, on both magnetic stripe and chip, with data capture and authorization services.
  • Integrating our systems with all the technology providers (Gilbarco, Wayne, Tokheim, Maser, Fortech).

NEXT STEPS

  • We want to allow customers to pay for refueling directly from their smartphones. We launched a pilot to test our APP to be available soon on both iOS and Android.
  • The application pinpoint the fuel pump leveraging multiple technologies: GPS, QR Code and Bluetooth.
  • Compatible with wallet and loyalty offering.

We target a cashless city in which local transportation is efficient, easy to access and to pay for.

HOW DID WE ACHIEVE THAT?

  • Offering an end-to-end solution (POS terminal handler, transit gateway, fare calculator, acquirer, data storage) due to partnership with market leaders.
  • Enabling commuters to pay with their cards or NFC mobile device at metro station gates or on buses; fare calculation is determined at the end of the day, applying the cheapest fare.
  • Including travel/commuting to the list of cashless low value payment experiences.

NEXT STEPS

  • We are working with several municipalities and local transportation companies to implement services ancillary to ticket payment, contributing to the creation of a cashless payment echosystem.

Restoration, a world of opportunity

Making payment experience more pleasant, reducing customer queues to the till and saving time.

HOW DID WE ACHIEVE THAT?

  • Offering a full servicing of payment experience in the restoration industry.
  • Partnering with major e-meal vouchers companies to issue and accept e-meal vouchers.
  • Allowing companies to benefit from tax savings on e-meal vouchers set out by Italian Law.
  • Developing a consumer app based solution, to order and pay for the meal, both in the restaurant premises or online.

NEXT STEPS

  • We are not only working on signing new partnerships with meal voucher companies, but also on creating a network of partners and aggregators to spread acceptance of our APP among restaurants.

HOW DID WE ACHIEVE THAT?

  • Supporting all IATA's payment standards and providing accounting management to airline companies.
  • Integrating our systems with two PSPs with a strong foothold among Airline Companies (Worldpay e Adyen).
  • Offering international acquiring management for each of the Airline Companies' sales channels: web, agencies, call centers, physical POS (sales through operator or self service), mobile POS on board.
  • Managing payments for tickets and travel services through all channels.

NEXT STEPS

  • We are testing a POS solution with in flight online authorization. The POS connects via Wi-Fi with the server on the plane that routes the authorization request to the ground to reach the payment scheme and card issuer.

Our history

SETEFI is established in 1988 as a financial institution within Italy's Trade Association (Confcommercio). Its mission is to develop a private label payment card with country-wide acceptance: the Moneta card.

We launch the first payment cards in Italy with microchip technology as cardholder authentication.

We are acquired by Cariplo, with the aim of becoming their in-house card processing company. We become members of international payment networks VISA and Mastercard.

We absorbe all activities related to the card payment business for more large Italian banks, namely Banco Ambrosiano Veneto (1999), Comit (2002) and Intesa Sanpaolo Group.

We launch the first contactless POS in Italy and start pilot programs with contactless cards.

Launch of multifunctional cards (payment cards with application to access local transportation services or events)

We receive the status of Payment Institution (registration n 19312 of the Italian Register of Payment Institutions).

We sign a Direct Acquiring Agreement with Diners.

We receive authorization for international operations in 5 European countries: France, Switzerland, UK, Spain and Germany.

We begin X-border acquiring. First POS terminales installed abroad.

We receive authorization to operate in 4 additional EU countries: Portugal, Belgium, The Netherlands and Greece.

We become members of Cartes Bancaires (the French domestic scheme).

We add Poland to the countries we are authorized to operate in.

We receive PCI-DSS and ISO 9001 certification.

We launch the first mobile POS solution in Italy, an innovative solution allowing payments to be accepted in mobility.

We release the MyBank eCommerce payment solution.

We sign an acceptance agreement with PayPal.

We start offering Masterpass solution to our clients (Mastercard’s wallet).

We close an acceptance agreement with Alipay.

We actively contribute to EXPO Milano 2015 by providing the entire POS infrastructure and payment acceptance capability for the event. We enable a real ‘cashless journey’ for consumers.

We receive authorization to operate in additional countries, extending our operations to all EU countries and Switzerland.

We begin developing targeted solutions for specific verticals (meal vouchers, fuel, airline, etc).

In 2016 we sell the vast majority of our acquiring business to Intesa Sanpaolo. We sign a 10-year service contract with Intesa Sanpaolo in the areas of card issuance, acceptance and ATM processing.

On 15 December 2016, Latino Italy S.r.l., a special-purpose entity wholly owned by Mercury UK Holdco Limited, acquired full control of Setefi, now “Mercury Payment Services S.p.A” from Intesa Sanpaolo.

The English company, HoldCo is controlled by a consortium formed by Advent International, Bain Capital Private Equity and Clessidra.
